Abdominoplasty

Cosmetic surgery of abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck, corrects the excess, sagging skin of the abdomen. More common in women after pregnancies, the stretched loose skin does not resolve with dieting and exercising. Stretch marks and fat accumulation adds to the unsightly appearance of the abdominal skin.
Surgical correction involves removing the excess skin, tightening the muscles and usually liposuction. Mini, modified and full abdominoplasties are modifications of the procedures depending on the amount of excess skin, muscle weakness and fat accumulation.

Mini-abdominoplasty is for excision of a small amount of excess skin that is confined to only lower abdomen below the umbilicus (belly button). Modified and full abdominoplasty are necessary for those who have excess skin both below and above the umbilicus with repositioning of the umbilicus. Scars are placed across at the lower part of the abdomen and the length of the scar varies with the amount of skin that needs to be removed.
Abdominoplasty can be done either with general anesthesia or local with sedation, either as out patient or with overnight stay.
