Dr. John Altobelli is a noted Plastic Surgeon who has practiced in the Lehigh Valley for over 30 years. Dr. Altobelli completed his undergraduate work at Brooklyn College in 1958. Following service in the United States Army, he was employed in the chemical industry where he developed several patented processes for the formulation of color.

In 1963 he decided that a career in medicine would provide the kind of challenge his inquiring mind was seeking. He entered the Medical College of Virginia where he received his M.D. in 1967. Having completed an Internship, a General Surgery residency and a Plastic Surgery residency at Allentown Hospital (now Lehigh Valley Hospital) in 1972, Dr. Altobelli became a certified member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and was then admitted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic and Reconstruction Surgeons, the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and the International Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons. Dr. Altobelli is on the staff of Lehigh Valley Hospital and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Penn State University.

Dr. Altobelli has published numerous articles in leading medical journals including The Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery Journal, The Annals of Plastic Surgery, and The Journal of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Altobelli’s views have been sought in interviews on Fox 5 News and in Family Circle, Longevity and Allure magazines. He has also been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey on her television program.

A love of art led Dr. Altobelli to become a painter. One of his paintings was featured on the cover of the national Aesthetic Surgery Journal. His works are presently in the collection of Muhlenberg College, Lehigh Valley Hospital and in many private collections around the country. Despite a demanding schedule, he still finds time to work at his easel in the studio he built at his home in Allentown, PA.
